The York House Society, which is to consider raising up to £10,000 so that the statuary in the gardens of York House, Twickenham, can be repaired, wants the work done to mark the Queen's silver jubilee. Members of the society have been concerned for many years about the deterioration of, a unique group of marble figures'' and have made many approaches to Richmond upon Thames Council, but no money is available is repair the statuary at present, they have been told.
A Mortlake resident is planning to chain himself to the railings of 10 Downing Street, on Sunday in protest about a rates demand from Richmond upon Thames Council. He says he is engaged in fighting for equal rights in the laws affecting rates. But he wants equal rights for men.
Sir Keith Joseph, Conservative policy chief, will be one of the speakers at a one-day conference being organised by Richmond and Barnes Conservative Political Centre.
