A strategic plan for the frequently traffic-choked Chertsey Road (A316), running through Richmond and Twickenham, aimed at improving conditions for both motorists and pedestrians, is to be prepared for Richmond upon Thames council. This follows weeks of road chaos, in which there have been queues of cars up to five miles between Apex Corner, on the Hanworth side of the borough boundary, and the new traffic lights at Kew Road, Richmond.

The high winds on Tuesday night resulted in the collapse of the small stand at Richmond Athletic Ground, which has a seating capacity for 500. Empty beer barrels were flung about in what was almost a "whirlwind" between the two stands, according to Mr Jim Richards, secretary of the ground. Many trees were blown down and other damage done.

Not so long ago a new craze swept the country. Open spaces were suddenly filled with people hurling plastic discs at each other - the "Frisbee" had arrived from America. Unknown to many people, the head office of the Frisbee Co is in Richmond, tucked away in the grounds of the Petersham Road Poppy Factory, employing around 20 people and with 15 agents dotted around the country.
