Woman left with bleeding eye after Halloween egg-throwing

A 26-year-old woman was left with a serious eye injury after Halloween pranksters hurled an egg at her face as they drove past.

Police are treating the attack, which happened in the early hours of Halloween, in Wellington Road North, as grievous bodily harm. Officers are hunting the passengers and driver of a dark coloured Toyota.

The woman was taken by ambulance to West Middlesex Hospital with a scratched cornea and bleeding at back of eye socket.

Inspector Manpreet Bains said: “The serious eye injury suffered by the victim highlights the dangerous consequences of what some people see as pranks of throwing eggs during Halloween.”

However, Ins Bains stressed the borough was largely untouched by illegal Halloween antics.

More than 100 safer neighbourhood team (SNT) officers worked until 2am on a night most reported as “fairly peaceful”.

Ins Bains said: “One team did find a man dressed as Beetlejuice fast asleep by the roadside, who may have had a few drinks.

“But, once woken up, he said he was okay and returning from a fancy dress party. He went home - dancing down the street.”

He added that one team successfully scuppered the egg-throwing plot of two youngsters by confiscating a whopping 72 eggs early in the evening.

SNT officers visited shopkeepers before the night took off asking them not to sell eggs and flour to young people while some wards handed out sweets donated by Tesco and Morrisons to supervised trick-or-treaters.

Anyone with information about the assault, which happened at 3.40am, should call Hounslow police CID on 0208 247 6160/5940 or Crimetoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
