A teenager is set to dance her way onto our TV screens this week as one of the stars of a new Disney Channel show.

Paris Fosuhene, 13, from Mortlake, was picked for the role from hundreds of hopefuls after impressing selectors with her dancing ability and leadership qualities.

The Waldegrave year 9 student was on a bus with some friends when she found out she had won a role in the reality-style program, Club High School Musical: Make it Happen.

“When my mum told me, I just couldn't control myself, I was just screaming,” Paris said.

In the show, hip hop dancer Paris and three other teenagers are tasked with creating and staging a spectacular High School Musical-style dance number in only four days.

They have to draw on their dance and organisational skills to choreograph the number, find 500 children to participate, and drum up an audience to watch it.

Choreographer Kevin Adams (of Fame Academy) acts as the children's mentor and sets them a series of challenges to complete along the way.

Paris, who has previously appeared in TV commercials and plays in the area, described the show as “really hard but really fun” and hoped it could lead to further opportunities in the creative arts.

“Anything in the media industry I'd love to do, but singing would be my first choice,” she said.

Club High School Musical: Make It Happen begins tonight at 6pm on the Disney Channel.
