Reports of a brilliant white flying saucer with flashing lights floating across the night sky were rubbished by the Ministry of Defence, according to newly-released documents.

This week The National Archives, in Kew, published never-before-seen reports of UFO sightings across the country, including dog walkers in Richmond who saw the flashing flying saucer in the mid 1990s.

However, despite seeing detailed sketches from eye witnesses, authorities dismissed the claims.

A subsequent investigation by the MOD concluded the craft was not from another planet but rather a Virgin Airship advertising Ford’s new Mondeo car.
