Few people feel angelic after devouring a bag of crisps – but Adam Qureshi certainly did when he tucked into a packet of his favourite roast beef and mustard crisps only to find a holy apparition.

The savoury snack fan was enjoying a night out in a pub with his former university friends when he decided to order a few packets of his favourite flavoured Brannigans crisps.

While the friends were deciding whether to go and see Star Trek or Angels and Demons at the cinema, Mr Qureshi, 23, was shocked to discover a saintly crisp that appeared to be sending him the answer from above.

The recently graduated philosophy student, of Worton Road, Isleworth, said: “I studied all about apparitions at university and was shocked to discover it. Normally I just put them in my mouth so I must have been playing with it.

“The mark on the crisp just matched the shape of an angel.

“We saw it as a sign to go see Angels and Demons.”

Mr Qureshi sent the crisp back to Brannigans to see what bosses thought of the find.

The company has given Mr Qureshi a year’s supply of crisps in honour of the discovery. Jessica Ali, a spokeswoman for Brannigans, said: “We couldn’t believe it when we heard about Adam’s find.

“We’ve always taken pride in producing crisps that are of the highest order, and it seems our roast beef and mustard crisps are truly angelic.

“In honour of Adam’s divine find we are going to make sure he is supremely stocked up, and will be supplying him with a year’s-worth of Brannigans crisps to devour.”

It is not the first time an iconic image has apparently been spotted in food.

Recently, a family from South Wales were convinced they could see the face of Jesus on the lid of a jar of Marmite.

Claire Allen, 36, of Ystrad, Rhondda, said: "People might think I'm nuts, but I like to think it's Jesus looking out for us.

"We've had a tough couple of months; my mum's been really ill and it's comforting to think that if he is there, he's watching over us."
