Swine flu has been confirmed at Hampton School.

The Hanworth Road school, which has been shut since Monday, said on its website this morning tests had proved a first year pupil had caught the bug.

The school is expected to be closed until next week following advice from the Health Protection Agency (HPA) in a bid to prevent the spread of the infection.

However, children showing flu-like symptoms are being advised not take the exams – and pupils are being told to return home immediately after the exam ends.

Antiviral treatment – Tamiful - was offered to all children in the first year, and all staff that had significant contact with the ill pupil.

The medication was also advised for girls from the Lady Eleanor Holles School who had shared a coach with the sick pupils.

Examinations due to be taken by some pupils this week were expected to take place as planned during the closure.
