Oxford wins boat race by 12 seconds

Oxford University’s team has won the 155th Boat Race today.

The team, favourites for the race, managed to edge ahead of the Cambridge team at the Chiswick reach.

The team won by three-and-a-half lengths and stormed in with a time of 17 minutes, Cambridge came in 12 seconds later.

This is Oxford’s fourth victory in the last five years, and seventh this decade.

The race sees the two teams battle it out on a route from Putney Bridge to Mortlake.

I was in the crowd at the finish and I thought the atmosphere was very tame this year- it was a bit of an anti-climax.

I support Oxford each year as I was a councillor for Cowley in the 1980s, but there was very little cheering as Oxford absolutely whipped Cambridge this time - however, well done all of you, though, for still making it an exciting annual event!
