Richmond Council’s cabinet agreed to make funds available for a possible legal challenge on the Government’s decision to expand Heathrow this week.
Leader of Richmond Council, Serge Lourie said: “We were absolutely furious with the Government. This was a decision which flies in the face of overwhelming public opposition, in particular from almost four million residents in and around London represented by the 2M alliance.
“At the end of 2007 the government carried out a consultation on their expansion plans which the majority of responses opposed.
“These plans are opposed because we are clear that the result of the expansion will be a significant and unacceptable deterioration in the quality of life for millions of people who live near Heathrow.
“In company with our partners we are therefore minded to seek a judicial review. We are up for the fight.”
