STAFF at West Middlesex Hospital were granted a rare audience with the Lord Bishop of St Albans, Christopher Herbert, when he visited the hospital on September 8, 2003.

By visiting hospitals, Bishop Christopher, who is the lead Bishop for the National Health Service as well as the Chairman of the Hospital Chaplaincies Council (HCC), aims to assist his understanding of the key issues within healthcare, as they impinge on the local population.

Jonathan Osborne, Chaplaincy Team Leader, said: "As the Bishop only visits a handful of hospitals per year as chair of the HCC, we were absolutely delighted that he chose to visit West Middlesex. The spiritual care of patients, staff, relatives and friends is an ongoing part of the agenda that drives the modern NHS.” “The continued development of the multi-faith chaplaincy service at West Middlesex is of real benefit to all our staff, patients and visitors."

During his visit, Bishop Christopher took part in a round table discussion with Senior Executives and staff to discuss current healthcare issues and applaud good practice and achievements.
