A MEXICAN stand off between the London Boroughs of Hounslow, Ealing and London Underground, which for years has meant a bridge in Chiswick covered in graffiti remaining a blot on the landscape, reached breaking point last week.

At stake is who has responsibility to clean the crossing on Acton Lane over the railway tracks by Chiswick Park Station.

The border dispute reached stalemate with Hounslow claiming it was Ealing’s duty, Ealing claiming it was London Underground’s, and London Underground saying it was the responsibility of the Local Authorities.

Finally on Wednesday, September 12, Hounslow took the moral higher ground and sent council workers to blast off the offending street art, but the move does not signal the end of the argument.

A council spokesman told the Times: "In the end we said we’re going to do it because it’s such an eyesore, but it’s not setting a precedent.

“I’m sure discussions will start again if or when the graffiti reappears, and something will happen."
