Sir – We all know too well the upset and annoyance the road closures in Richmond have caused, not least to the upheaval of the bus routes.
As a Queen’s Road resident, I have seen the buses coming up the road quadruple (at least) since the diversion, thus causing huge traffic congestion at peak times.
I appreciate this is something we will have to put up with until November, when the works are meant to be finished.
However, what I cannot accept is that all those diverted buses passing Queen’s Road are refusing to stop to let any residents get some tiny benefit from this disruption.
I have been told by drivers that it is a non-stop diversion and so they will not stop. This does not make sense. Please explain why, when a bus is sitting in a solid traffic jam every week-day up Queen’s Road, what harm could there possibly be in opening the bus doors at the bus stops?
