Thousands on people descended on the riverside for the 131st Sunbury Regatta.

With a mixture of club skiffing and punting there was racing for adults last Saturday and an array of sideshows, refreshments and entertainments providing something to keep everyone entertained.

The day culminated with an open air concert and fireworks display in the evening.

The junior regatta, which was rocked just days beforehand when thieves stole one of the boats for the crews to race in, took place on Sunday despite the setback.

Vice chairman of the organising committee Kaye Lennon said: “The regatta as a whole was really successful because we had over 3,000 people attend the two days.

"There were 64 races on the Saturday and 70 races on the Sunday.

“There was some very close racing on the Sunday and it was very windy which just added to the atmosphere.”

New to the event this year was an indoor rowing championship sponsored by VirginActive Leisure Club in Sunbury.
