The brother of 18-year-old Hazrat Wali, who was killed in Twickenham, has said that his death has “left a void that cannot be repaired” after a teenager has been jailed for his manslaughter.

The 17-year-old was sentenced to ten years imprisonment at the Old Bailey on Friday (March 10).

He had been found guilty of manslaughter at the same court on Tuesday, January 24.

The court heard that at around 4.30pm on October 12, 2021, Hazrat and another teenager were sat in Craneford Way Playing Fields when they were approached by six teenagers they did not know.

The 17-year old was one of the group and became involved in an argument with Hazrat.

They started to push against each other, continuing to argue.

Hazrat used his left arm to push the defendant away.

In a matter of seconds, the defendant pulled out a knife and stabbed Hazrat in the right side of his chest.

The wound caused by this was deep and caused internal injuries that led to fatal blood loss.

Although officers and the London Ambulance Service were called to the scene, they could not save Hazrat’s life.

In early 2015 when Hazrat was just 13-years-old he left Afghanistan for his own safety and to start a new life.

He lived for a short time in Austria before moving permanently to the UK and settled in London in 2017.

Ashuk Mohamed, Hazrat's brother said: "No-one should have to suffer the way my brother did, no-one should have to die this way.

“I am heartbroken that my brother has died this way, I wanted to help him and I couldn’t.

"His death has left a void that cannot be repaired as the circumstance means that I have had no closure and no way of saying goodbye.

“The devastation and the trauma that has been caused by Hazrat’s death can’t be explained in words.

“Our hearts are aching so much that we can’t express.

“Our life will never be the same again and we will never forget Hazrat Wali."

Detective Inspector Matt Denby said: “Hazrat’s death tragically illustrates the awful consequences that carrying weapons can bring – a young man’s life has been cut short and Hazrat’s family and friends have been left to deal with the pain of this loss.

“In addition, a teenage boy will now spend time in prison as a result of his actions that day.”
