Mids are left in disbelief

11:52am Wednesday 21st May 2008

Old Mid-Whitgiftian were denied three points against Bank of England on Saturday when their rain-affected match was abandoned following a misunderstanding.

Mids believed that James Howgate's unbeaten 66 had comfortably earned them a winning draw after lengthy rain stoppages had left them just 19 overs to chase Bank's total of 155-5.

However, post-match consultation with the league revealed that 20 overs of play were needed in the second innings to constitute a result and the game was therefore recorded as abandoned.

Bank made a decent total, with Mark Roberts and Gavin Piper taking two wickets each.

Despite losing Richard Piggin in the first over, Howgate recorded a half-century to help Mids finish on 101-1.
