Spring Grove House went back in time when it became the setting for a costume exhibition hosted by staff and students from West Thames College.

The fashion, music and dance event was held in the foyer and the winter garden of the mansion on March 18.

It began on the staircase of the Grade II listed building, where creative art students showcased pre-Raphaelite costumes and characters.

The students took their inspiration from the pre-Raphaelite images that adorn the building's stained glass windows.

Characters from the era included Madeline after Prayer, the Lady of Shalott and classic female Shakespeare characters Ophelia and Juliet.

The audience then went to the winter garden where second year National Diploma Performing Art students performed 1920s songs and dance.

Theatre design lecturer Christine Osborne said: "The students were incredible and did us all proud.

"They all had to do their research, create the scripts and rehearse the routines as well as putting together their costumes and makeup.

"The show was a great success and the support of every staff member from across the department was invaluable too."
