Mad hatters descend on Hampton Court

The first cup of tea was poured in Hampton Court today to open the Monster Raving Loony Party's spring conference.

But the tea at this Had Hatters' Tea Party was not the usual brew.

Expertly poured by the Deputy Mayor of Elmbridge, Councillor Nigel Cooper, the beverage turned out to be alcoholic Tea beer.

Raising the pint glass in the air Coun Cooper and the leader of the Monster Raving Loony Party Alan Hope declared the fun should begin.

Asked about the party's policy ideas Mr Hope said: "One idea we've had is to remove all the yellow lines from the country's roads and just paint them in where you can park - imagine how much paint you would save!"

Some brave members decided to shave their heads today to raise money for the 3rd Molesey Scout group which needs a new roof on its building.

Other crazy fundraising plans for the day included a Spacehopper race by the River Thames.
