The odour improvement work at Mogden Sewage Works is on track and many key milestones have already been achieved, Thames Water has said.
The chemical odour control unit for the east side of the Mogden works has been operational since last January.
Thames Water said the covering of large areas of Mogden has required much of its existing mechanical equipment to be modified.
Work on the west side is almost complete.
Two key areas of work still outstanding are the covering of the remaining two settlement tanks and the decommissioning of the remaining two settlement tanks.
This, the company said, is a complicated area of work which is currently in the planning stage.
Ofwat's odour specialist Gordon Allen has visited Mogden to confirm that the work agreed with the industry regulator was being delivered.
Mr Allen said he was satisfied with the way the works were progressing.
