A 10-year campaign for a solution to parking problems at Teddington station may end next week if the borough's transport chief gives his approval for a controlled parking zone (CPZ).
On Wednesday, January 30, Councillor David Trigg, Richmond Council cabinet member for traffic, transport and parking, will decide at a transport consultative group meeting on whether to make a CPZ in several roads close to the station.
A consultation was carried out over the last few weeks on whether to introduce a zone operating between 8.30am and 10.30am, Monday to Friday.
Although 58.5 per cent of the 480 respondents were against the introduction, residents in 11 roads, including Victoria Road, Albert Road and Station Road which are adjacent to the station, were in favour.
The Teddington Society has said it supported a CPZ in roads where residents voted in favour, but reacted angrily to part of the scheme which would see parking spaces allocated to businesses or residents who, according to the society, did not need them.
Residents of Elleray Road have criticised the plan and have said it would reduce the number of parking spaces, but Teddington ward councillors favour of the scheme.
Coun James Mumford said: "At the moment the situation is pretty intolerable. We have had so many reports of people saying they have to park many roads from their homes.
"We consulted additional roads to give them the option of going into the zone at the start if they felt it would impact them.
"The CPZ is probably going to go into the roads that have always wanted it, but Coun Trigg will have to decide whether it is big enough to be viable "I expect it will be."
