Tributes to T-Rex legend

Fans of glam rock icon Marc Bolan will be gathering at the site of his death today.

Fans of the T-Rex frontman from across the world are to gather in Queen's Ride, Barnes Common, Barnes for the 30th anniversary of his death.

Bolan, who lived in Wimbledon and East Sheen, died when his purple Mini, driven by girlfriend Gloria Jones, crashed into a tree on the common.

According to Fee Warner, founder and secretary of the T-Rex Action Group (TAG) fans will perform a number of the band's tunes at the site from 12pm.

She explained club members from as far as America, Australia, Belgium and Sweden were due to attend to the occasion.

It is understood members of Bolan's family will be paying their tributes to the singer this afternoon.

In 2000 TAG became the legal leaseholds of the tree where Bolan died giving its members full ownership and responsibility for it.

A greatest hits collection of the singer's work is due to be released on Monday.
