Kingston has joined a number of boroughs across the capital urging residents to ditch their cars for a day.

St James Road in Kingston will be one of around 50 roads in London to be closed to cars for a over the weekend for World Car Free Day.

The road situated near the Guildhall will be closed to cars between 11am and 3pm on Saturday, September 22.

Information about alternative modes of transport will be available in a reserved pedestrianised northern section of St James Road, close to the High Street and the marketplace.

There will be a gathering of visitors and guests to hear Kingston’s Mayor Cllr Thay Thayalan announce the borough’s marking of Car Free Day.

Cllr Hilary Gander, portfolio holder for Environment & Sustainable Transport, said: "Car Free Day is an ideal moment for us to stop, think, and for one day leave the car at home and instead choose to ride a bus, jump on a train, dust down our bikes, or just walk.”
