A Richmond school is determined to find funding to buy a grand piano for its successful music department.

Christ’s School in Queens Road has several alumni from its music department which have gone on to be professional musicians in the jazz, rock, and classical worlds.

As part of the department's next phase, Philip Wilson, director of music, hopes to find a grand piano, not only for the school's own students, but also to help the department become a hub for quality music locally, including professional music making.

The school has nearly raised £1,000 in its first month of fundraising, but is looking to the Richmond community for help in raising the rest of the funds it needs.

Fundraising initiatives still planned by the school include a musical Performathon as well as other concerts scheduled for the autumn.
