People in Greenwich are being urged to take to two wheels and join the UK’s biggest bike commuting event.

Cycle to Work Day will take place on August 15 and it's expected that hundreds of people will get involved.

All you need is a bicycle and the desire to ride into the sunrise/sunset on your way to work.

The event is run by Cyclescheme and is free to all riders of all abilities and you can pledge how many miles you will ride at www.cycletoworkday.org.

For those inspired to take up cycling to work full-time, there is also the opportunity to get discounts on new bicycles and equipment.

Dr Krishna Subbarayan, a Greenwich GP and GP commissioner with NHS Greenwich Clinical Commissioning Group, said: “Cycling to work is a great way to fit a little exercise into your daily routine. Joining in this event could be just the kickstart you need to make cycling part of your daily life.

“As well as improving your fitness, physical activity is also good for your mental wellbeing; evidence shows that it can help protect people against anxiety.”

Cyclescheme is an employee benefit scheme that saves you 25 per cent to 39 per cent on purchasing your bike and accessories, and allows you to spread the cost through salary sacrifice.
