Residents from Richmond gathered at the Twickenham Stoop Stadium to celebrate a successful London Youth Games.

More than 130 young athletes, parents, team managers and volunteers celebrated Team Richmond’s success last week.

The evening was hosted by Harlequins and organised by the councils Sports Development Team.

Young athletes were presented with the medals and trophies they won across this year’s competition.

In total, Team Richmond won five gold medals, seven silver and four bronzes. They also achieved 31 top 10 placings to secure an overall second place finish.

Team Richmond were also crowned 2018 Regatta champions for the sixth year in a row. Orleans Park School and Waldegrave School, both in Twickenham won the boys and girls school awards for the second year in a row.

The ParaGames swimming team also won the ‘overall contribution’ trophy, for their ‘fantastic campaign and continued improvements’.

Mayor of Richmond, Cllr Ben Khosa attended the ceremony and said: “It’s always fantastic to celebrate the achievements of talented young people in our borough. Team Richmond’s young athletes have once again performed incredibly well, representing the borough with pride and distinction.!”
