Richmond is the third highest place in the UK for driver error.

Regtransfers.co.uk, a private number place specialist, used the latest annual statistics from the Department of Transport to create an interactive chart that highlight the most common causes of road traffic accidents.

Nearly half, 47.2 per cent, of all accidents occur because of driver error. In Richmond, this figure increases to 54.7 per cent.

According to the research, the most common cause of accident due to driver error was because the driver failed to look properly.

Road fatalities in Great Britain are now higher than at any time in the last five years. Government figures show that the number of people killed on British roads is at its highest since 2011.

Almost 46 per cent of deaths by road traffic accident involved occupants, of this 69 per cent were the driver. The number of 17-24-year olds who died in accidents is 19 per cent which is a disproportionately high number when compared to the number of young drivers.

Rick Cager, of Regtransfers said: “Road safety is everyone’s responsibility. We hope by showing the sheer number of road casualties in Britain, it will make people more aware of what is most likely to cause an accident, and therefore hopefully prevent it from happening.”
