The Met Office has announced that today is the hottest day of the year so far, with London reaching temperatures of 29.4C.

If you've been outside today you'll probably have noticed it's a bit hot.

There is barely a cloud in sight as the temperatures rise in and around the capital and London prepares itself for a heatwave.

Met Office presenter Alex Deakin said: “A big high pressure system is moving in and sticking around, lasting throughout next week.

“High pressure means dry weather, and with strong sunshine at this time of year, temperatures will be rising day on day.

“It’s really from midweek onwards that we could see those values hitting 30C, probably places inland.”

Due to the time of year, shortly after the summer solstice, the sun is also at its highest point in the sky and shining down on us for the most hours a day.

We suggest you get out the suncream and drink all the water you can get your hands on.

The heatwave is here to stay for at least a week, so get ready.
