York House, the Richmond council building in Twickenham, was illuminated green last night in an act of solidarity for those who lost their lives in Grenfell fire last year.

York House was among a number of civic buildings in London lit up in green from 1 am until dawn last night to mark when the fire started and will be illuminated again tonight from dusk until midnight.

A number of other local buildings in the borough will also be showing their support, including the RHP building in Teddington.

Richmond Council leader, Cllr Gareth Roberts, said: “The fire at Grenfell Tower last year was one of the biggest civilian tragedies ever seen in this country.

“It is important that we pause and mark our respect for all those who lost their lives and show solidarity and support for those who survived.

“While turning buildings green might seem like a small gesture, I hope the fact that this is being replicated on buildings across the capital will not only show our support for this grieving community but also demonstrate to them that this tragedy has not been forgotten.”
