A Twickenham Sea Cadet has won the prestigious Jack Petchey Foundation Achievement Award.
Ciaran Stenning, 13, received a medallion and prize money at Kensington Great Hall on Sunday, April 29.
The teenager was said to have performed "outstandingly" in a District Rowing Competition last June.
He rowed in seven races across seven hours and, with his team mates, competed against teams stronger and faster than theirs, but did so "with grit and determination".
Ciaran specifically stood out as even when experiencing physical pain, he pushed himself to the limit and took part in all seven races.
His group said: "Stenning demonstrated that day everything we look for in a Sea Cadet."
Ciaran decided to spend his £250 Jack Petchey Achievement Award grant on personalised t-shirts for the cadet group.
