Twickenham Fine Ales, London’s oldest microbrewery has picked up an award in the Champion Beer of London Competition.

The brewery, established in 2004, won the 2018 Champion Bitter of London with their bitter, ‘Grandstand’.

Ben Norman, a director at Twickenham Brewery, said: “We’re extremely happy and proud to make London’s best bitter.

“It’s one of our regulars, we have been making it for a long time. It’s nice to have all year round, not just for rugby season.

“As London’s oldest microbrewery it’s nice to still be going strong; we have been winning awards for years.”

The brewery make four regular beers and then have a seasonal selection that rotates, making over 20 different beers in a year.

Christine Cryne, organiser of the London Drinker Festival where the judging took place said: “We chose to run the competition to showcase the fantastic beers we now have in London.

“The quality was excellent and the judges had a hard time making a decision.

“The beers were chosen by CAMRA members from across London, out of the hundreds that are on offer.”

This year was the last ever London Drinker Beer & Cider Festival because Camden Council is closing the Camden Centre, the festival’s home for 34 years.
