Swanley has been named the nation’s house price hotspot among commuter towns in England, according to new figures.

Property website Zoopla identified it as the best performer in the study, with an average house price of £375,066 and annual growth rate of nearly 11 per cent.

The research looked at towns within an hour’s commute of 10 cities, searching Birmingham, Bristol, Edinburgh, Leeds, London Manchester, Newcastle, Sheffield and Nottingham.

It is believed that, because of this, the value of a Swanley home could offset the cost of a £2,500 annual London rail fare in just under a month.

Meanwhile, Walton and Weybridge in Surrey rank among the bottom 10 with the second and fourth worst annual growth rates respectively.

The former has an average house price of £630,468 and the latter at £914,740, with annual growth rates of minus five percent and minus 4.79 per cent respectively.

Zoopla spokesman Lawrence Hall said: “An easy commute into the office is often very near the top of the property wish list for those looking to move home, and these figures show just how valuable it can be to live within easy reach of a city centre.”
