Heritage walks Hounslow Heritage Guides are leading walks around historic areas of the borough of Hounslow during the summer.

The volunteer expert guides lead the walks starting at 2.30pm on Sundays over a route lasting around 90 minutes at a gentle pace.

Private walks are also available by arrangement.

Brentford: The walks start from Brentford High Street and Half Acre Junction.

Brentford town: August 26, September 30, October 28, tracing the town's different eras from the Roman road to the 1652 Civil War battle and the building of Brunel's dock, part of which survives.

Brentford to Boston Manor: August 5, September 2, October 7, taking in the history of St Lawrence Church, the Grand Union Canal and finishing at a fine example of Jacobean architecture, Boston Manor House, where tours are available.

Chiswick: all start from St Nicholas Church steps, Church Street.

Chiswick Village: October 28. Discover an Elizabethan timber frame building not far from a Palladian jewel and what the artist Hogarth called his little box by the Thames'. This walk give an insight into the lives of Chiswick people at all levels, from paupers to queens.

Historic Richmond: Explore 18th century history from Richmond Green along the Thames towpath past cottages and waterside inn to the Georgian Bridge. Thursdays, Fridays and last Sundays in the month, 11am June-October and Boxing Day. Suitable wheelchairs.

Richmond Hill: Walk up Richmond Hill to enjoy The View and the Terrace Gardens. Discover almshouses, blue plaque to Bernado O'Higgins and statue to Aphrodite. Saturdays 11am June-October except the first Saturday of each month.

Kew Walk: The Hanoverian Royal Family were closely associated with St Anne's Church where the artists Gainsborough and Zoffany are buried. Walk around Kew Green and the riverside to hear the history of their lives. Enjoy tea and cricket in summer at the church. 2pm on first Sundays in August, September and October. Suitable for wheelchairs. Meet at St Anne's Church, Kew Green.

Saturday 4 until Sunday 5 August Tudor Cookery: Real smells, sounds and huge roasting fires give a flavour of Tudor life below stairs, as chefs experiment with recipes, ingredients and cooking methods to prepare a feast fit for a king. Hampton Court Palace, 10am-5pm. 0870 753 7777.
