Singer Lily Allen belted out songs at the Chiswick Festival last week and proclaimed: "This is the poshest gig I've ever been to".

Pop stars and celebrities were stunned by the plush surroundings at Chiswick House and Gardens, with food tents fit for a Queens' banquet rather than a music festival.

Doctor Who star David Tennant must have thought his tardis had landed him in a parallel universe to the Glastonbury Festival as people sipped champagne in a sea of tweed and umbrellas.

Other acts included Natasha Bedingfield, Jamie Cullum, The Feeling, Sophie Ellis-Bexter, and The Magic Numbers.

A number of acts spoke tongue in cheek of how proud they were to be part of such a worthwhile event to raise money to restore the amphitheatre.

Tickets for the event were a whopping £150, but once inside, everything was free and very, very good.

There was not a greasy burger in sight as festivalgoers munched away on fresh lobsters, oysters, steak and salmon, the posh nosh all washed down with glasses of Pimms and cocktails.

Well spoken pop singer Sophie Ellis-Bexter, told the Times: "I think I was more likely to be hit by an oyster shell than a tomato."

Festival goers crowded round the main stage despite the heavens opening just as Lily Allen started her first song. Before beginning her second, she joked: "This song is quite sad. In fact, it's so sad even the sky has started crying."

Chiswick residents Richard Bacon and Ant and Dec had the well lubricated audience roaring with laughter as they hosted the event, staged by Soho House to raise funds for the important repairs.

The restoration of the Amphitheatre requires more than £300,000 of investment which, once complete, will make it one of the most celebrated historic landmarks in west London.
