More than 30,000 cyclists will ride through Richmond this weekend for the capital’s biggest cycling festival.

Both amateur and professional cyclists will saddle up again this year for the annual Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 and Prudential RideLondon-Surrey Classic, on July 30.

New for 2017, the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 46 will see 3000 amateur cyclists take on a 46-mile cycle through the borough.

Cllr Peter Buckwell, Richmond Council Cabinet Member for Highways and Streetscene, said: ““Prudential RideLondon is back again and with an additional event it is shaping up to be a great weekend. I do advise residents to be prepared and plan your journey on the Sunday.

"If you have any queries on the day you can always tweet @LBRuT who will try to help you.”

The events are part of The RideLondon festival of cycling, which starts on July 28, aiming to boost to the number of active cyclists in the UK, while attracting hundreds of thousands of spectators to London and Surrey.

Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 has grown since its first debut, in London, to have 27,500 amateur cyclists, whilst, the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey Classic, involves 150 of the top international professional cyclists.

The day will see bridge and road closures throughout the Capital including in Richmond Park, Hampton Court Road, parts of the A316 and the Upper Richmond Road.

All of these roads form part of the outbound route for the cyclists taking part in the events, which start in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and runs through London, Richmond upon Thames and Surrey before returning to the capital to finish along The Mall.
