Richmond is celebrating its 40th Twinning Anniversary with French town Fontainebleau, which lies 30 miles south of Paris.

To mark the event this year, a cycle has been organised by Twickenham-based charity StreetInvest, an organisation that supports street children around the world.

This year they are reaching out the marginalised and excluded young people across the United Kingdom.

Ride 40 Anniversary, from Fontainebleau to Richmond, is rated ‘moderate’ and is open for entry level riders that wish to take in the scenery, cuisine and local wines while potentially making new friends along the way.

Councillor Jean Loveland, Richmond Council’s cycling champion, is taking part and said: “To survive living on the streets children must be brave, courageous and resourceful. Given half the chance they are more than capable of improving their lives.

“However, they cannot do it alone and this is why StreetInvest exists.

“Ride 40 Anniversary is a great opportunity to raise money for a much deserving cause, be fit and healthy, and enjoy our beautiful borough while celebrating our relationship with our twinning partner Fontainebleau.”

There are still a few places available on the ride and, if you register to join Team R&TT by Sunday August 6, then you will receive a £150 gift voucher from the event’s sponsor Richmond Cycles.
