An exhibition that showcases vibrant and colourful 3D iconography, offering a ‘doorway to worlds beyond’, is being shown in the Riverside Gallery at Richmond.

Artist Ian Butcher, who is currently hosting a solo show at The Gallery in Richmond Old Town Hall, converts flat images into illusory three-dimensional artworks.

The process involves manipulating images to have high colour and interesting textures that are then printed onto matte art paper before being cut and layered to produce unique collages.

They are strongly inspired by Mr Butcher’s experiences when travelling, which has included religious sites and temples.

The pieces are then presented in perspex boxes to produce depth to the images.

Cllr Meena Bond, Richmond Council Cabinet Member for Art, said: “Mr Butcher takes simple two-dimensional pictures and transforms them into a 3D masterpiece.

“I am looking forward to seeing more of his work and encourage others to attend yet another fantastic exhibition at the Riverside Gallery.”
