As two terror scares hit the borders of Richmond upon Thames, the borough's police chief has told residents to stay vigilant'.

The reminder from Ch Supt Rick Turner came after a suspect package was detonated at Hammersmith tube station on Tuesday, July 3, and, just hours later, a suspicious bag found in Heathrow?s Terminal Four.

Ch Supt Turner said all police were being briefed on a daily basis about the threat faced by terrorists and extra patrols were in place around the borough.

"In terms of our actions, we are making sure that all the police are out and highly visible to the public," he said.

"We are getting as many out on the streets as we can.

"We do have a number of iconic sites in the borough and we have a team ready to respond to any threats 24 hours a day.

"There are also teams patrolling these areas 24 hours a day"

He urged the public to be vigilant and report anything suspicious straight away, adding: "It's right that people are ringing in if they are concerned.

"If the suspicious activity does not turn out to be anything, that does not matter.

"We have not had any specific intelligence with regard to the borough being under threat.

"All boroughs in London are put at risk and nobody should overlook anything that they feel is suspicious.

"But let's make sure we keep life going on as normal."
