The freezing temperatures are set to continue in London for weekend, with a windchill feel in the minus figures.

The Met Office has issued a severe weather warning for the capital and charities are urging people to keep warm.

Friday evening and night will be a crisp -1C, while cloudy and cold, with sleet and snow showers.

Saturday will bring more of the same, with Kent and Sussex getting the brunt of the snow. The maximum temperature will be 5C but it may feel much colder.

The outlook for Sunday is chilly as there will be “marked windchill”, rain, sleet and snow.

Met Office forecaster Emma Salter said: “It is going to be very cold and cloudy, with maximum temperatures of 3C or 4C.

“There could be a few showers which could be sleety and temperatures will fall as low as minus 2 overnight on Friday.

“Saturday and Sunday are looking to be the same but the winds will pick up which will make it feel even colder.”

Londoners can look forward to warmer weather on Monday with some sunny spells.
