The Hammersmith Bridge will be closed during the half term school holidays while maintenance work is carried out.

The work is being carried out by Hammersmith and Fulham Council and Transport for London (TfL) and is scheduled to start on Saturday, February 11 and end on Monday, February 20.

Motorists will be diverted to Chiswick Bridge and Putney Bridge, while the 33, 209, 283, 419 and 485 buses will terminate before the bridge.

Passengers can walk across the bridge to resume their journeys. The 72 bus service will be diverted via Chiswick.

Pedestrians and cyclists are being advised to take care whilst crossing the bridge as it will be busier than usual.

Richmond Council’s member for highways, Councillor Peter Buckwell, said: “I want to ensure residents and businesses are given as much notice as possible of this essential maintenance work to Hammersmith Bridge.

"It will cause disruption to roads in Richmond but has been planned for the half term holiday to minimise the impact to the surrounding area.

"Hammersmith and Fulham Council and Transport for London are apologising in advance for the disruption this work will cause and are reassuring residents and businesses that loud equipment will not be used after 8pm.”
