Orleans House Trust has bagged £8,000 from the Tesco Bags of Help initiative to contribute towards the fund for the redevelopment of the gallery in Twickenham.

The supermarket has teamed up with Groundwork on its Bags of Help initiative, which raises grants directly through the 5p bag levy being awarded to environmental and green space projects.

The redevelopment of Orleans House Gallery in Twickenham was one of the projects shortlisted and, over a two week period at the start of November, shoppers voted for whomever they felt should take the top grant.

Orleans House Gallery was awarded £8,000 towards its £3.6million transformation fund.

The project aims to restore the gallery to its former glory, as well as making it accessible to more visitors.

Lord True, leader of Richmond Council and chairman of the Orleans House Trust, said: “A big thank you to everyone who voted for Orleans House Gallery over the past two weeks.

“The Transforming Orleans House project will increase access to the history of Orleans House and the Richmond Borough art collection.

“It will restore the Octagon Room back to its former splendor for the future enjoyment of everyone who lives, works and visits the borough.

“The development work has now started, but as Tesco says ‘Every Little Helps’.”
