A Surrey Comet sports reporter cycled nearly 900 miles across the breadth of the UK in just nine days to help raise money for charity.

Stuart Amos, 39, set off from Land’s End alongside friend Matt Addis, 39, from Twickenham, on Thursday, September 15.

The pair completed the mammoth bike ride in John O’Groats the following Friday, powered by hearty full English breakfasts.

They chose charity Children with Cancer after a pal’s 18-month-old child was diagnosed with leukaemia and have raised more than £2,000.

Mr Amos said: “Brilliant experience. There were some dark moments, but the ride through Scotland was more than worth the pain of Cornwall and the Lake District.

“I never knew the road to Telford from Hereford was so hilly.

“If you can imagine the hills in the Mr Men books, you’ll have an idea of what it is like.”
