Epsom’s Chris Langridge has won bronze in the men’s doubles at the Rio Olympics.

With his Team GB partner Marcus Ellis, ranked at 22 in the world, he beat the fourth seeded Chinese pair of Biao Chai and Wei Hong 2-1 (21-18, 19-21, 21-10) to claim third place.

Langridge and Ellis beat Korea and Poland, but lost to Denmark, to progress out of the group stage, before beating Japan in the quarter-final.

A disappointing defeat to another Chinese pairing in the semi-final led to a place in the bronze medal play-off, where they became the first ever Brits to medal in men’s badminton doubles.

Meanwhile, Great Britain’s 4x100m relay team have qualified for the final as one of the fastest losers.

The quartet – featuring Harry Aikines-Aryeetey of Sutton & District AC, and James Ellington from Croydon – clocked 38.06 seconds to finish seventh fastest and take their place in Saturday’s final.
