Judges from the British Film Institute, Film Four and the BBC will be part of the Barnes Film Festival’s youth film competition panel this September.
The film festival’s founder, Sam Cullis, began a summer school for young film makers in 2013 which was almost instantly oversubscribed so began to expand workshops and screenings for students.
The Barnes film festival now counts Hollywood star Stanley Tucci and British actor George Mackay among its patrons.
Mr Cullis said: “I wanted to enter their films into film festivals and then thought, why not create my own festival which would allow the students to show off their work.
“I hadn’t appreciated how difficult it would be to put together an event like this but it has been fascinating.”
Mr Cullis said he anticipates about 50 entries for each category, with five to be shown during the festival, which runs from September 2-4.
