The man arrested on suspicion of stabbing four women in Hampton was released from police custody just hours before the attack.

Four women, aged 67, 62, 71 and 53, were stabbed in the car park of Sainsbury’s in Tangley Park Road at about 10.30am this morning.

One of the woman is fighting for her life in hospital. The condition of the other three is stable.

A 66-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

The same man was arrested in a different borough yesterday (Thursday, May 19) on suspicion of being in possession of a knife and assaulting a police officer.

He was charged with assaulting the police constable and bailed this morning to attend court in June.
