Richmond police’s borough commander was suspended following allegations of gross misconduct on Friday but the Metropolitan Police have refused to comment regarding the nature of the complaint.

From Friday: Richmond and Twickenham police borough commander suspended

Allegations about Colin Kennedy, who has worked for the Met since 1986, were first reported to the Directorate of Professional Standards (DPS) on Wednesday, April 20, and a referral was made to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).

Kingston's chief superintendent Glenn Tunstall will be temporarily acting as borough commander for both boroughs while the investigation is ongoing and said he could not comment on the situation regarding chief supt Kennedy.

Chief supt Tunstall told the Richmond and Twickenham Times: “While I hope to give people more information about what the future looks like regarding the leadership for Richmond police in the long term, I am unable to do so at this time, but I will as soon as I can.

“While my role here is interim I take it very seriously and will focus on Richmond and will ensure that the success that Richmond police have had will continue and [this situation] will not impact service delivery.

“I am afraid I am unable to answer any questions about the investigation.”
