An inquiry into allegations Sadiq Khan delayed revealing thousands of pounds of donations has been launched, just weeks after a similar investigation into rival Zac Goldsmith’s declarations began.

Labour’s mayoral candidate was accused by Sutton and Cheam MP Paul Scully of failing to declare donations of more than £300,000 within the required 28–day period and Parliamentary Standards Commissioner Kathryn Hudson has launched an investigation.

FROM MARCH: Zac Goldsmith probed about donation declarations but rival Sadiq Khan accused of having even worse record

In March, Labour MP Neil Coyle made a former complaint about Mr Goldsmith, who admitted he may have broken some Westminster rules by registering campaign gifts after the June deadline, and an inquiry into his own registration of interests was launched.

In his letter to Ms Hudson, Conservative Mr Scully highlighted a £60,000 donation to Mr Khan from Unite, £63,000 from the London Tea Exchange and £10,000 from Cool Investments Ltd.

Richmond and Twickenham Times:

A spokesman for Sadiq Khan said he will be responding to the Standards Commissioner in due course.

A spokeswoman from the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards said she could not comment on an ongoing inquiry.
