Richmond Park MP Zac Goldsmith made £10m in the past five years and paid more than £700,000 in taxes last year.

The Conservative candidate for London Mayor published details of his tax returns after calls for him to “come clean” about his former ‘non-dom’ status.

In 2014/15, Mr Goldsmith earned £67,035 as an MP and more than £1.5m in trust income.

He paid £692,870 in income and personal gains taxes last year and more than £4,500 in National Insurance Contributions on his MP income.

According to PwC, Goldsmith earned more than £6m in income over the past five years and £4.26m in capital gains.

This means Goldsmith paid an average rate of income tax of 46 per cent over the past five years.

The vast majority of his taxable income came from a family trust, set up by his father Sir James Goldsmith, who he inherited his ‘non-dom’ status from.

He gave up his status before becoming an MP in 2010.

London mayoral candidate Sadiq Khan has committed to publishing his own tax returns.

Mr Goldsmith said: "I have today published my tax return details, prepared and verified by PwC, who have represented me all my adult life.

"I gave a commitment to do so and today I deliver on that promise.

"I look forward to all mayoral candidates doing the same so London voters can judge us equally."
