Mortlake's historic Stag Brewery site has finally closed after centuries of producing beer, with a "new riverside quarter" set to be developed.

Production has now ended and the 21-acre site, near Chiswick Bridge, has been sold to Reselton Properties, a subsidiary of City Developments of Singapore.

A spokesman for AB InBev, the firm which owned the plot, said: "Reselton have informed us that they plan to promote a new riverside quarter for the Mortlake area which will include a fully integrated mixed-use scheme.

"Completion of the sale will be concluded before the end of the year but we will continue to occupy the site during a decommissioning period which is likely to run into the second quarter of next year."

It is expected it will be turned into a "high-density residential-led" scheme complete with restaurants, cafes and retail space alongside a museum and boathouses.

The Stag Brewery, which most recently produced Budweiser beer, began brewing commercially in 1700.

It was originally earmarked for closure in December 2010, but extensions were made to this timeline.
