A biker badly injured his leg when he was knocked off his Harley Davidson in an area described as “an accident waiting to happen,” weeks before safety improvements are expected to be made.

Jordan Taylor, 24, is still using crutches following the crash outside Hampton Wick Surgery in Upper Teddington Road on Wednesday, November 18 at about 7.20pm.

FROM WEDNESDAY: Motorcyclist hospitalised after crash in Upper Teddington Road

Mr Taylor, who works in the building trade, suffered muscular injury and an open wound and said: “I was driving past and the car just came flying out when he can’t have seen me coming.

“I am still on crutches, in a lot of pain and I can’t work at the moment.”

His mother, Helen, of Crieff Court in Hampton Wick, said the layout of the parking bays and nearby bus stops create a dangerous blind spot.

She said: “On the day Jordan had his accident there was a traffic jam and the traffic on the road had stopped so the guy thought he could come straight out.

“You have got to literally edge out of there so gently and you can’t see a car coming unless you are almost the full way out.

“Luckily Dr [Sheetal] Patel and another doctor came out to help him, but something has to be done to make the area safer and stop this happening again.”

Woffington Close resident Jinty Coventry-Boyle, who waited with Ms Taylor for an ambulance, said: "The way Richmond Council has allowed the traffic and parking to [build up there] makes leaving the [surgery] a matter of taking your life in your hands."

Hampton Wick Surgery could have three parking bays removed and a pedestrian refuge installed if proposals are given the go-ahead.

Following Mr Taylor's accident Richmond Council have made arrangements to adjust the road markings by removing some bays outside the surgery in order to improve visibility.

The consultation has been running since September and councillor for Hampton Wick and cabinet member for community safety Tony Arbour said: "I am anxious to see that Richmond's roads are the safest in London and that Hampton Wick is the safest ward in the Borough."
