Brentford fans will be scanned by metal detectors and have been asked to avoid bringing bags into Griffin Park due to extra anti-terrorism measures.

Anti-terrorism security has been ramped up following the tragic mass killings in Paris last week, including suicide bombs at an international football match at the Stade de France.

The Bees are advising supporters to arrive earlier than normal for Saturday's Championship match against Nottingham Forest.

A statement on the club's website said a crowd of about 11,000 fans is predicted, with every single supporter set to be scanned by metal detectors and subjected to frisking.

It said: "With the UK on severe terrorism alert, as it has been since August 2014, Brentford FC will be doing all it can to ensure all matches at Griffin Park are held in a safe and secure environment.

"In order to assist with this – and help fans enjoy their day – all attendees will be scanned with metal detectors and subject to pat down searches on entry to the ground.

"There will also be a thorough search of all bags and fans are asked to avoid bringing bags in to the stadium if possible."

Fans' entry to Griffin Park may be delayed by up to 15 minutes on Saturday afternoon and the club advises people to arrive at least 30 minutes earlier than usual.

The bolstered security searches will remain in place until further notice and extends to club staff, media and every person entering the ground.

Supporter Martin Rugg commented on the Bees Facebook that it is "best to be safe".

Dean Rolfe added: "Letting the terrorists win again. Great".
