A teenage air cadet from East Sheen received a London Ambulance Award after coming to the aid of an injured man earlier this year.

Lucas Lagadec, from 39F (Barnes) Squadron, was walking through Richmond when he found the man lying on the ground, accompanied by his sister.

Having achieved his St John Youth first aid certificate from the Air Cadets the previous week, Lucas immediately took charge of the situation and assessed his injury.

He managed a serious arm injury, while directing a bystander to call 999 for an ambulance, which took over an hour to arrive.

In that time, Lucas waited with the man and even purchased some water for him and his sister using his own pocket money, because of the hot weather.

The ambulance crew were so impressed with Lucas's work that they nominated him for the London Ambulance Award, which he received on September 30 at his squadron parade.

Lucas's officer in command Alastair Rosenschein said: "Lucas joined us earlier this year and is a very conscientious cadet with a natural empathy for people.

"He gels very well with the whole group and is an excellent member of the cadets.

"London Ambulance Service staff said they had never come across someone so professional of any age before."

39F Barnes Air Cadets are currently recruiting and anyone aged 12-18 is welcomed to join.
